SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC DETERMINATION OF Co (II) IN PHARMACEUTICAL, SOIL AND ALLOY SAMPLES BY USING 2- ACETYLFURAN-4-METHYL-3-THIOSEMICARBAZONE (2-AFMT)L. Srikanth Reddy and K. B. Chandra Sekhar *
Abstract A highly sensitive selective spectrophotometric method has been developed for the determination of cobalt (II) using 2-acetylfuran-4- methyl-3-thiosemicarbazone (2-AFMT) as an analytical reagent. The 2-AFMT forms yellow color species of cobalt(II) at a pH range of 5.0- 7.0, and The Co(II)-2-AFMT complex shows maximum absorbance at 360 nm, with molar absorptivity and Sandell’s sensitivity being 1.86 × 104 L mol-1 cm-1 and 3.2 ×10-3 μg cm-2, respectively. The system obeys Beer’s law in the range of 0.23-2.36 μg/ml. The regression coefficient of the Beer’s law straight line is 0.338, and the correlation coefficient is 0.999. The detection limit of the method is 0.035μg/ml. Most of the common metal ions generally found associated with cobalt do not interfere. The repeatability of the method was checked by finding the relative standard deviation. The developed method has been successfully employed for the determination of cobalt (II) in Alloy, soil and pharmaceutical samples. Keywords: [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
