EVALUATION OF ANALGESIC AND ANTI INFLAMMATORY ACTIVITY OF SOME SYNTHESIZED 3-(5-PHENYL-4,5-DIHYDRO-1- SUBSTITUTEDPYRAZOL-3-YL)CHROMEN-2-ONELakshmi Narayanan B*, Gnanachandran AK, Vishwanath BA, Venkateshwaran J, Renjith Alex A, Satish M
Abstract Coumarins have important effects in plant biochemistry and physiology, acting as anti-oxidants and enzyme inhibitors. The coumarins have long been recognized to possess anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-psychotic, antituberculosis, anti-HIV and anti-carcinogenic activities. The present study was undertaken to evaluate the analgesic activity of synthesized coumarin derivatives of 3-(5-Phenyl-4,5-dihydro-1-substitutedpyrazol- 3-yl)chromen-2-one using Eddy’s hot plate method and also to evaluate anti-inflammatory activity by membrane stabilization method. In analgesic methods a dose of 50 mg/kg has shown significant activity and the dose of 100 mg/kg has shown significant anti-inflammatory activity for membrane stabilisation method. Perhaps the presence of dimethyl amino group [-N (CH3)2] at aromatic ring system and the presence of heterocyclic ring system may be the responsible for both analgesic and anti-inflammatory activity.
