EVALUATION OF POLY HERBAL FORMULATION AGAINST FRUCTOSE INDUCED INSULIN RESISTANCE IN RATS
M. Venkateswarlu*, D. Ranganayakulu, K. N. Jayaveera
Abstract The metabolic syndrome, a cluster of metabolic disorders often associated with visceral obesity, increases cardiovascular complications and mortality. Polyherbal therapy is said to be a current pharmacological principle having the benefit of producing maximum therapeutic efficacy with minimum side effects. The present study was carried out to evaluate hypoglycemic, lipid lowering and antioxidant activities of a poly herbal formulation (PHF) in fructose induced insulin resistance in rats. Insulin resistance was induced by administering 30% Fructose (10 ml/kg, p.o.) in rats for 4 months. Aqueous extract of PHF (400mg/kg p.o) decreased significantly (p Keywords: Polyherbal formulation - Fructose - Metabolic syndrome - Insulin resistance– Experimental animals.
