STUDY OF ANTIOXIDANT ACTIVITY OF DIFFERENT FRACTIONS OF LEUCAS CEPHALOTES (ROXB.EX ROTH) SPRENGB. BabuRao*, S.Vinay kumar, B. Rama Rao, G. Krishna mohan
Abstract The present study was carried out to evaluate the free radical scavenging activity of various fractions of toluene, ethyl acetate, butan-2-one and n-butyl alcohol of whole plant of Leucas cephalotes. diphenylpicrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and 2,2'-azino-bis(3- ethylbenzothiazoline -6-sulphonic acid) (ABTS) free radical scavenging assays were carried out to evaluate the antioxidant of the extract. The antioxidant activity of toluene, ethyl acetate, butan-2-one and n-butyl alcoholic extract increased in dose depending manner. In DPPH free radical scavenging assay the IC50 value for DPPH scavenging by the toluene, ethyl acetate, butan-2-one and n-butyl alcoholic extracts of Leucas cephalotes (Roxb.exRoth) Spreng were 22.4, 10.5, 43.6 and 33.3 respectively. The IC50 value for ABTS free radical scavenging activity of toluene, ethyl acetate, butan-2-one and n-butyl alcoholic extracts of Leucas Cephalotes were 15.04, 4.0, 8.9 and 11.61 respectively. The results obtained in this study indicate that the ethyl acetate extract can be potential source of natural antioxidant. Keywords: [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
