EFFECT OF DESICCATION OF THE BIOCHEMICAL MOIETIES AND HAEMOLYMPH CONSTITUENTS OF THIRD INSTAR LARVA OF LEUCOPHOLIS LEPIDOPHORA (BLANCH)

Abstract

Third instar group of the Leucophora lepidophora Bl. Expose to desiccation for 45 days in the soil having 14% moisture level. Desiccation causes considerable loss up to 44% in the body weight. Biochemical moieties like body total sugar, glucose, protein and lipid get considerable reduced by 73%, 69%, 41%, and 90% respectively by desiccation. The haemolymph total sugar, glucose and protein in desiccated grubs also reduce by 53%, 64% and 22% respectively. The Total Haemocyte Count of grubs significantly increased from 1850/mm3 of haemolymph to 6000/mm3 of haemolymph. The haemolymph cationic composition of Na+, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+ of desiccated grub significantly increased by 91%, 45%, 36% , and 33% respectively.
