IMMUNE PROCESS IN PERIODONTAL DISEASE -A REVIEW

Abstract
Periodontal disease is a chronic infectious inflammatory disease that affects periodontium and gradually destroys the tooth-supporting alveolar bone.[1] The periodontium is a supporting structure that surrounds and supports the teeth. It consists of different tissues including the gingiva, the cementum, the periodontal ligament and the alveolar supporting bone. Periodontal diseases can affect one or more of the periodontal tissues While there are many different periodontal diseases that can affect these tooth supporting tissues, by far the most common ones are plaque induced inflammatory conditions, such as gingivitis and periodontitis.[2,3]
