PHARMACOGNOSTICAL AND PHYSIO CHEMICAL ANALYSIS OF ANUBHUTA RASAYANA YOGA-AN AYURVEDIC POLYHERBOMINERAL FORMULATION FOR PRIMARY OPEN ANGLE GLAUCOMA

Abstract

Primary Open Angle Glaucoma is a neurodegenerative disease affecting the Retinal Ganglion Cells and the Optic nerve. Anubhoota Rasayana Yoga is an effective poly herbo mineral compound having Chakshushya Rasayana property acting at the cellular level capable of preventing deterioration of Retina and the Optic nerve. Proper identification, evaluation and standardization are elementary for any herbomineral compound to ensure its safety and efficacy. Thus Anubhoota Rasayana Yoga was evaluated by Pharmacognostical, Preliminary Physicochemical and Phytochemical parameters. Pharmacognostical study showed the characteristics of all the ingredients present in the compound. Physico chemical analysis showed Loss of drying 1.5% w/w, Ash value 14.59%, Acid insoluble ash 4.9%w/w; alcohol soluble extract 20.4%w/w, water soluble extract 6.3% and pH 3. Phytochemical analysis of the methanolic extract of the drug showed the presence of glycosides, alkaloids, Tannins, steroids and Phenolic compounds. Overall analysis confirmed the genuinity and quality of the prepared drug.
