Abstract Background and objectives: Magnesium has potential as antinocciceptive molecule. These effects are primarily based on physiological calcium antagonism,. Our aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of Magnesium sulphate on quality and potency of postoperative analgesia, postoperative analgesic requirements in patients undergoing major abdominal surgeries under general anaesthesia. We also evaluated its effect on haemodynamic parameters, urine output, postoperative nausea, vomiting and shivering.
