ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITY OF AEGLE MARMELOS FRUIT
Bhavna Devi* and Krishan Pal
Abstract Aegle marmelos (Rutaceae) is an indigenous plant of India. It is used in traditional medicine for a variety of purposes, in treating diarrhea caused by enteric organisms. The great future potential of this plant has created a need for an antimicrobial assay, which can effectively confirm its antimicrobial activity. The aim of this study is to evaluate the antimicrobial properties of Aegle Marmelos. In this study, antimicrobial activities of different extract of Aegle Marmelos fruit were evaluated against different microbial strains like Escherichia coli (MTCC- 443), Bacillus subtilis (MTCC-441), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (MTCC-2453), Staphylococcus aureus (MTCC- 2940), Aspergillus brasiliensis (MTCC-1344) and Candida albicans (MTCC-227) by agar well diffusion method & MIC determination by broth dilution method. The extract showed a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activities by inhibiting the growth of respective microorganism in Agar well diffusion assay. Keywords: Aegle Marmelos, Antimicrobial activity, MIC, Zone of inhibition, Aegle Marmelos fruit. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
