PHYTOCHEMICAL AND ANTIBACTERIAL STUDIES ON ARISTOLOCHIA TAGALA CHAM
Kalaiarasi V, Johnson M*, Sivaraman A, Janakiraman N, Babu A, Narayani M
Abstract The present investigation was aimed to explore the phytoconstituents present in the aerial parts of Aristolochia tagala Cham. and their antibacterial efficacy. The preliminary phytochemical constituents were qualitatively analysed using the standard procedures described by Harborne. The antibacterial screening was carried out using the well diffusion method explained by Perez et al. Phytochemical screening of different extracts of A. tagala revealed the presence of steroids, phenolic groups and flavonoids and the results were tabulated. The ethanolic, acetone and chloroform extracts of A. tagala showed antibacterial activity, the other two extracts were failed to show the inhibition against the selected pathogens. The results of phytochemical and bio-efficacy study revealed most valuable information and also support the continued sustainable use of A. tagala in traditional systems of medicine. Keywords: Aristolochia tagala; Anti-infective; Anti-bacterial; Phytochemistry; Phenolics; Flavonoids. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
