EVALUATION OF TOXICITY OF CAESALPINIA BONDUCELLA DECOCTION
*Shirish S. Pingale and Nirmala R. Kakade
Abstract The aim of the present work is to evaluate acute toxicity study of decoction of Caesalpinia bonducella. The leaves of this plant were collected from Awsari Forest Park, Ambegaon, Pune, Maharashtra. The fresh 100 gm leaves powder is boiled with 200cc distilled water for one hour. The decoction obtained is then filtered and then concentrated to a volume of 100ml. The sample was kept in airtight plastic container and was used for acute toxicity study as per OECD guidelines by using Wister Rats. The plant material was administered orally at dose of 2cc to 10cc/Kg body weight of Swiss mice. The animals were observed continuously for the period of first 4 hours continuously for behavioral changes and then they were kept under observation for 14 days after decoction administration with the help of gavage. The mortality observations were reported to find out the toxic effect of the decoction of leaves of this plant. From these results it is observed that Caesalpinia bonducella the decoction at doses of 10cc/kg body weight is nontoxic as no any type of abnormal changes were reported in behavior, food and water intake of the administered animals. The Caesalpinia bonducella plant material was found to be relatively safe when administered orally in Swiss mice. Lethality or adverse toxic signs were not observed during the experimental period. Keywords: Caesalpinia bonducella, decoction, Lethality, acute toxicity. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
