EFFECTIVE MANAGEMENT OF SANDHIGATVAT (OSTEOARTHRITIS) WITH ABHYANTAR CHIKITSA AND STHANIK CHIKITSA: A CASE STUDY

Abstract In general practices there are many patients amongwhich Sandhigat vat is the major class. Now a days due to life style modification the prevalence of Sandhigatvat is getting more. In ayurvedic samhitas sandhigatvat has been mentioned as a very common problem, characterized by pain & restricted movements of joints. The etio pathogenesis of the sandhigatvat is suggestive of Vata-pradhana vyadhi. Asthi is the sthana of vata dosha and vata has said to inversely proportionate relationship with Asthi Dhatu as Ashraya Ashrayi relation.Bony degenerative changes may relate Asti Dhatu Kshaya and thus cause vitiation of vayu. Sandhigata is the most common cause of disability in population. Studies shown that 80% of population will suffer sandhigatvat of moderate to severe type during their life time. In most of the cases patients complains about the same complaint of joint pain & difficultyin doing their daily activities. In Ayurveda above conditions well explained under the (VATAVYADHI) charak chikitsasthana adhyay 28.2 To overcome thisproblem Ayurveda suggests the very effective treatment. A 48 years old male patient came in OPD ofswasthvritta Department on 25/01/2017 having complaints of Lt.knee jointpain, restrictedmovements, increased pain on movements, cracking sounds in joint during movements (crepitus). Since 2 months. She was treated by Ayurveda line of treatment i.e. Deepan – Pachan- Abhayanga-Matra Basti and got result. Hence presented as case.
