VAMONATTARA VIRECHANA KARMA (THERAPEUTIC PURGATION AFTER THERAPEUTIC EMESIS) IN TEENAGE PATIENT: A CASE STUDY

Abstract Sodhana is a biopurification Panchkarma procedure done in patients of different age groups and in various diseases. Due to Sodhana (biopurification) vitiated Dosha are eliminated, the power of digestion and metabolism is enhanced, diseases are cured, normal health is restored, sense organs, mind, intelligence and complexion become clear, and person is not affected by old age and lives long without any disease. If Sodhana is administered properly it pacifies the disease, destroys the disease and increases the Bala and Varna. Vamana and Virechana are considered the best line of treatment for Kaphaja disorders and Pittaja disorders respectively. A teenage boy aged 14 years was brought for Panchakarma treatment with multiple complaints of itching and burning sense in skin with recurrent patches, recurrent rhinitis. Audible crepitus from knee joint was heard. Considering Tridosha Dusti Sodhana was planned. Classical Vamanottara Virechana Karma (therapeutic Purgation) was done. Samayak Suddhi Lakshana of Vamana and Virechana were Observed. No any Ayoga or Atiyoga were observed during the course of Vamana and Virechana. There was significant result in symptoms. This case study supports the classical indication that Sodhana though is difficult procedure to manage, but with proper counseling, observation and strict monitoring it can be safely done in teenagers whenever necessary.
