STUDIES ON IMPACT OF GLYPHOSATE ON SELECTED HAEMATOLOGICAL PARAMETERS OF FRESH WATER FISH, CIRRHINUS MRIGALA
K. Pechiammal* and J. Vasanthi
Abstract Environmental pollution by toxicants has become one of the most important problems in the world. Pesticide contamination of aquatic system has attracted the attention of researchers worldwide and has increased in the last decades due to extensive use of them in agricultural, chemical and industrial processes which are becoming threats to living organisms. Fish are more frequently exposed to these pollutants because it is believed that regardless of where the pollution occurs, it will eventually end up in the aquatic environment. The blood parameters were analysed in the fish, Cirrhinus mrigala theLC50 value was determined when the fish was exposed to insecticide. The parameters like RBC, Hb, MCV, MCH and PCV were decreased and WBC have been increased in the fish. Keywords: Cirrhinus mrigala, Haematological parameters, Glyphosate.
