SYNTHESIS AND ANTIMICROBIAL SCREENING OF SOME DIHYDROPYRIMIDINE DERIVATIVES OF N-ARYL-3- CYCLOPROPYL-3-OXO-PROPANAMIDE

Abstract

Dihydropyrimidines have attracted considerable attention as they appeared of interest to possess wide range of therapeutic activities. Dihydropyrimidine derivatives like some new 5-Arylamido-6- cyclopropyl-4-(p-methoxyphenyl)-3,4-dihydropyrimidine-2(1H)-ones (1a-l) and 5-Arylamido-6-cyclopropyl-4-(p-methoxyphenyl)-3,4- dihydropyrimidine-2(1H)-thiones derivatives of type (2a-l) have been prepared by the cyclocondensation of N-Aryl-3-cyclopropyl-3-oxopropanamide with arylbenzaldehydes, urea and thiourea respectively in the presence of HCl. The structure elucidation of synthesized compounds has been done on the basis of Elemental analyses, I.R. and 1H N.M.R. and by Mass spectrometry. Purity of all compounds has been checked by T.L.C.
