PHYTOCHEMICAL STUDIES AND GC-MS ANALYSIS OF THE ONYCHIUM CRYPTOGAMIA COLLECTED FROM KUMAUN, HIMALAYAS, UTTARAKHAND

Abstract Medicinal plants are of great importance to the health of individuals and communities in general. The major constituent found to be Geranial present in the essential oil. The essential oil from the leaves of Onychium cryptogamia analyzed by GC-FID, GC-MS. Total of 55 constituents and 94.10 % of essential oil has been identified from the essential oil of Onychium cryptogamia. Acyclic Monoterpenoids were Citral (14.74 %), Geraniol (9.89 %). The results data obtained in the present study suggest that some essential oils possess strong medicinal activities, which can be utilized for treatment of certain diseases.
