FORMULATION DEVELOPMENT AND EVALUATION OF FAST DISSOLVING BIOADHESIVE SUBLINGUAL FILM OF SUMATRIPTAN
Pawandeep Kaur* and Vijay Kumar
Abstract The fast dissolving sublingual films are more beneficial in comparison to the tablets and capsules because sublingual films tend to dissolve within a minute/ second after placing below the tongue. Sumatriptan succinate is a drug of choice used in the treatment of migraine, which is very common problem for the travellers. The aim of the study was formulation development and evaluation of Fast dissolving Bioadhesive sublingual film of Sumatriptan. Films were prepared by using solvent casting method. Administering the drug by sublingual route enhances the bioavailability and fast dissolving films bypasses the first pass metabolism of the drug. Fast dissolving films are the advancement in the solid dosage forms and having more patient compliance. Fast dissolving sublingual films were prepared using HPMC E5/PVP K30 in the combination, mannitol and glycerine in different concentrations of polymers i.e. 50/10mg, 200/10mg, 400/10mg and 450/10mg. The formulation containing 400/10mg i.e. formulation code F3 which show high dissolution and permeation were selected as best formulation. Keywords: Sumatriptan succinate, Fast dissolving sublingual films, Migraine. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
