Abstract
The present investigation was to formulate controlled release of
mucoadhesive tablets. The tablets were formulated by using
clarithromycin as drug. Which is a semi synthetic macrolide antibiotic
for the treatment of H. pylori infection in peptic ulcer. The releases of
drug were controlled by polymers of natural polysaccharide like
chitosan and tamarind seed polysaccharide. which is isolated from the
seeds of Tamarindus indica. The combined form of these polymers
with drug was formulated to once daily controlled release
mucoadhesive tablets. The excipients were subjected to preformulation
studies including FTIR compatibility studies. The tablets were
evaluated for in-process and in-vitro studies. The biosdhesive strength
of tablets and polymers were determined by different ex-vivo methods
via HPMC K-100 comparitative study. The selected formulations were
subjected to stability studies. The study concluded that combination
of chitosan and TSP is best natural polymer for mucoadhesion by the advantages of
controlled release and biodegradation.
