Ubbani Ramakrishna*, Alle Swathi, Ragya Eslavath, Sujatha Banavath, J. Shiva, Cheruku Shankar and B. Prem Kumar

Abstract

The aim of the present study was to investigate biological activities of natural and synthetic isoquinoline alkaloids encouraged us to develop novel antimicrobial isoquinoline compounds(5a, 5b, 5c, 5d, 5e, 5f & 5g).A novel a series of Isoquinoline-Sulfonamide derivatives have been designed and synthesized. All the synthesized Isoquinoline- Sulfonamide derivatives were evaluated for their in vitro antibacterial activity against one Gram-positive bacteria: Staphylococcus aureus and one Gram-negative bacteria: Escherichia coli. All tested compounds exhibited moderate activity against the Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli strains. Unfortunately, none of compound in present series have in vitro activity better than reference drug i.e Tetracycline in Staphylococcus aureus strain and also in Escherichia Coli. Among all derivatives, compound-5c have high activity against Staphylococcus aureus strain, with inhibition zone value = 17.33 ± 0.41 mm and compound have high activity against Escherichia coli strain, with inhibition zone value = 15.17 ± 0.20 mm.

Keywords: Isoquinoline-Sulfonamide, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus Aureus, Antibacterial Activity.
