Abstract

CODES TECHNOLOGY: A NOVEL APPROACH FOR COLON TARGET-A REVIEW ARTICLE

Krutika Ashok Kulkarni*, Jaymin Patel and Dr. Shreeraj Shah

Abstract

Colon drug delivery is intended to target the drug molecules to the local area of colon to treat various diseases such as crohn‟s disease, ulcerative colitis and colon cancer etc. Amongst different types of delivery systems, microflora activated delivery systems are the most efficacious approach for colon delivery due to the tremendous bacterial population as well as accompanying enzymes, triggering the release of drug from delivery system. CODESTM has acquired more attention because of targeted delivery beacuse of the combination approach of pH dependent system and microbial triggered approach. Therefore CODESTM has acquired more attention in targeted delivery, which enables dose reduction, with more coherent results of drug absorption, and targeting of drug to particular absorption window in GIT. A complete overview of CODESTM as a Promising approach to effectively target therapeutic agents to colon. Where in in this current article, minor modification in CODESTM is explained by overview of different polysaccharides obtained from different sorces.

Keywords: Colon Targeted Drug Delivery System, CODESTM, Polysaccharides, Biodegradable, Colonic Microenvironment, Natural Polymers.
