Abstract
Alloxan widely used as diabetogenic agent but when compared with
streptozotocin, most workers preferred later. The present work
investigated standard alloxan dose and age of the rat for stable
experimental diabetes. The rats of the age 6, 9, 12 and 15 months were
divided into four batches as batch 1, 2, 3 and 4. Each batch of the rat
further divided into G1, G2, G3 and G4 on the basis of alloxan dose
received i.e. 120, 140, 160, and 180 mg/kg b.w of intraperitoneal
alloxan. In conclusion the works established standard alloxan dose of
180mg/kg b. w. in 9 month old rat as stable diabetic model.
