1Dayananda Sagar College of Pharmacy, Shavige Malleswara Hills, Bangalore. 2PGP College of Pharmaceutical sciences and Research Institute, Namakkal, TamilNadu. 3Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh.
Abstract An attempt has been made to highlight the leaves of Barleria montana (BM) through the pharmacognostic studies. The preliminary phytochemical analysis has also been performed on the powdered leaves. The presence of multicellular covering trichomes, xylem vessels with pitted and spiral thickenings, and anomocytic stomata are seen in the transverse section and powder characteristics of BM leaves and can be used as anatomical markers. Preliminary phytochemical analysis indicated the presence of phytosterols, phenolics, alkaloids, terpenoids, tannins and flavonoids present in the methanolic extract of BM. Physico-chemical parameters like ash value, extractive value and moisture content were estimated inorder to enable the identification of the drug in a convenient manner. Keywords: Barleria montana, pharmacognostic evaluation, phytochemical, physico-chemical. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
