Abstract
The aim of the present study was to investigate the changes in the hematological parameters in African sharp-toothed catfish, Clarias gariepinus, after the exposure of aqueous and alcoholic extract of leaf of Eclipta alba. Fishes of average weight 70-80 g were treated with the dose of 10 and 20 ppm of extracts of leaf of E. alba. Blood sample was collected on day 7, 14, 21 and 28 after treatment for analysis of RBC, Hb, PCV and WBC. Data obtained were subjected to statistical analysis such as ANOVA, Duncan multiple range test etc. After the application of 10 and 20 ppm of both the extracts, hematological parameter showed significant increase at various sampling points on RBC and hemoglobin. PCV did not affected significantly by aqueous extract however; alcoholic extract could show significant alteration with treatment and duration. Aqueous extract significantly altered the WBC at different sampling points. Statistically significant results were noticed on MCV, MCH and MCHC in treated with the two doses of aqueous and alcoholic extracts.
