SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC DETERMINATION OF SALICYLIC ACID FROM SINGLE AS WELL AS COMBINED DOSAGE FORM
Dimpal H. Jani* and Satish A. Patel
Abstract A simple, sensitive, rapid, accurate and precise spectrophotometric method has been developed for the determination of salicylic acid from single as well as combined dosage forms. Salicylic acid shows maximum absorbance at 301.2 nm. Beer's law was obeyed in the concentration range 5-60 μg/ml. The limit of detection and limit of quantification were found to be 1.52 and 4.60 μg/ml, respectively. Results of analysis were validated statistically and by recovery studies. The method was validated as per ICH guideline rules in terms of linearity, accuracy (recovery study), precision (repeatability, intraday, interday validation), limit of detection, limit of quantification. The method was successfully applied to determine content of salicylic acid from single as well as combined dosage form without interference of excipients or other active pharmaceutical ingredients at 301.2 nm. The assay of salicylic acid has been successfully performed from single dosage form like lotion and combined dosage form like ointments. All the validation parameters were found to be within acceptable limits. Keywords: Salicylic acid, spectrophotometric, single, combined, dosage form, validation.
